Daesung Runs Over Motorcyclist
In May 2011, BIGBANG’s Daesung accidentally ran over a motorcyclist, who already lying in the road after wiping out. It was unclear whether the man died due to his crash or Daesung hitting him. Police decided there wasn’t enough evidence to charge Daesung, and he settled with the victim’s family for an undisclosed sum. Daesung then took a few months off for “self-reflection.”

When news first broke out about BIGBANG’s Daesung car accident that had possibly left a motorcyclist dead, my jaw dropped. I will say, I am a fan of BIGBANG and seeing this news shocked me.

Daesung was not drinking and driving the day of the accident. They have reported that Daesung crashed into a taxi and an anonymous motorcyclist that was already passed out on the street. While the taxi driver stopped his car to help the motorcyclist, who was hit by a previous hit-and-run accident, Daesung crashed into the stopped taxi, killing the motorcyclist. After the accident, police arrived and gave Daesung an alcohol test. It was revealed that Daesung was not under the influence of alcohol.

First it was just an unfortunate accident, that Daesung crossed a bridge driving from Hapjeong-dong to Yangpyung-dong and hit a parked taxi that avoid the motorcyclist who already laying on the road. According to YG, Daesung was driving down the first lane, and the taxi in front of him suddenly drove over to the second lane and then quickly reversed back into the first lane, causing Daesung to collide.

As soon as Daesung got out of the car accident, he asked the taxi driver if "he was okay",and the taxi driver said, "I’m not the problem right now. On the first lane, there’s a passed-out motorcycle driver who is bleeding, so I tried to escape the situation and then tried to stop to examine it."

A taxi driver had stopped after seeing a fallen motorcyclist in the road and had put on his emergency blinkers. A second driver was able to swerve and avoid the motorcyclist also, but Daesung did not see the motorcyclist and ran over him and hit the taxi cab.

Daesung hit a bleeding motorcyclist on the ground then a taxi with his Audi last 31st at 1:28 AM. The motorcyclist died on the spot. Daesung was questioned for five hours right after the accident and was sent home around 7AM that morning. Daesung will probably not be called for a second questioning because he was cooperative enough for all info needed on the first questioning, but if a second is necessary, “it will be done in private.”

At first the deceased was thought to be a victim of a hit-and run, but later it was revealed that they thought that he got into a accident due to driving under the influence of alcohol. Police had also said that Daesung was negligent in driving by not seeing the victim on the road and speeding.

In the briefing, police revealed that Daesung will be charged for negligence while driving which led to the death of the victim. The findings state that the victim hit a street lamp which did cause significant injuries to his face, neck and back and caused him to be lying on the road. It was alluded to that it was difficult to differentiate which injuries occurred from which accident, but that only a little over 2 minutes passed between both accidents and that they don’t believe that the victim died within those two minutes laying the blame for the death on Daesung.

Police recommended indictment of Daesung to prosecutors. However, Daesung and victim’s family have reached a settlement, in which they will not seek charges against Daesung.

Between the time after the accident happened and before the autopsy result released, Daesung had been greatly affected by the accident and has been locking himself up in his room, refusing to talk to his other band members and his family.

Daesung Accident Sparks Fan War.

This isn’t a time for fanwars and bashing; it’s a time for mourning and needed strength. From what I know, Daesung is one of the nicest, sweetest idols out there. It would be a career-ender, but that’s not what he would have to worry about. He was there at the scene, he witnessed it. It’s a traumatizing experience.

Antis are mocking Daesung and laughing at VIPs for what they all are going through. While VIPs not only worrying about Daesung, but defending themselves and him from the wrath of antis. It’s just so wrong. Then how about the motorcyclist? In this situation, it’s a lose-lose cause for the motorcyclist’s family. No matter what happens to Daesung, the motorcyclist isn’t going to just come back to life. The motorcyclist is GONE. No more in this world. Nothing can change that fact. Instead, we have division and fighting going on.

Here message for everyone:

To antis: What if your favorite idol was in Daesung’s shoes right now? Would you still be singing the same tune? Of course VIPs are going to try to defend Daesung; that’s just fact. But stop adding oil to the fire. For crying out loud, a life is now gone. We have families hurting. Respect VIPs, respect the dead.

To VIPs: I respect that you are loyal to Daesung and care more about him, but please don’t disrespect the dead. All human lives are precious. It is true that if convicted and found guilty, Daesung’s career is probably over. But remember, a life was taken. That life cannot be given back. If Daesung is found guilty, he will be remorseful and full of guilt for most of his life. The motorcyclist’s family will be saddened that their child was taken from them to early. And if the motorcyclist had a family, the spouse is now widowed, the child has lost a parent. I feel pained for both parties involved.

To everyone else: Please don’t try to incite more fanwars and rage. What we need is a sense of unity, peace, support. If we have fans and antis and everyone else bickering over each other’s comments, it shows that we are divided and right now, both parties don’t need any of us to be fighting. They want support and love, so let’s show them that.

Daesung Comeback with Solo Single in 2012

Since his car accident last May, Daesung ended all of his Idol appearances for the rest of the year until earlier March 2012, Daesung made a massive comeback with BIGBANG’s release of Alive, the first Korean album to crack the Billboard 200. Daesung is fully back with his idol appearance during live performance stages for the “2012 Big Show-Alive,” where he sang his solo track, “Wings”.

Daesung said: “I was also afraid of the fans’ eyes. But I couldn’t avoid the stage and not perform. So until the last moment, I just told myself to stare at the fence between fans during my performance.”

I remember that I got goosebumps from the loud fan chant by VIPs at the concert. Glad that Daesung felt the support and love. Daesung performance? (Click)
